When Ugborikoko Market in Warri, Delta State, was temporarily relocated to make way for its redevelopment, many traders were faced with an unexpected reality. Although the redevelopment promises a better market for the future, the move to a temporary location meant that many customers no longer knew where to find them.

For traders whose businesses provide the daily income needed to feed their families, pay school fees, and meet essential household needs, the sudden decline in customers created significant financial uncertainty.

At the Moel Idu Foundation, we believe that communities are strongest when people stand together during difficult times.

Our team visited the temporary market to meet with the traders, listen to their experiences, and provide essential food support to help ease some of the immediate challenges they were facing. More importantly, we wanted them to know that they had not been forgotten.

Every conversation reminded us that behind every market stall is a person working tirelessly to build a better future for their family. Their resilience, determination, and hope in the face of uncertainty were truly inspiring.

While the market continues to be redeveloped, we remain hopeful that these traders will soon return to a thriving marketplace where they can rebuild their businesses, reconnect with their customers, and continue supporting their families with dignity.
